In Search of a CVIS
The State of Cardiology IT Today

March 23, 2009

The 2009 "In Search of a CVIS: The State of Cardiology IT Today" report identifies a number of reasons for the high rate of replacement among cardiology solutions, including physician frustration, rapidly advancing technology and the need to unify an organization’s imaging and IT infrastructure, generally as part of an enterprise imaging strategy. A steady stream of acquisitions in the space has also been a factor as product lines are consolidated.

In a sense, the multiple acquisitions in the cardiology market that have occurred over the past four years have been a benefit to providers in that nearly every vendor in this report has both a radiology PACS and a cardiology PACS offering.

Additionally, the report found that the most satisfied CVIS customers were those with dedicated, internal cardiology IT support resources. Maintaining specialized onsite support aids in both training and business continuity, which contribute to physician satisfaction and adoption.

Agfa, Digisonics, Emageon, Fujifilm, GE, Goodroe, LUMEDX, McKesson, OptiMed, Philips, ScImage, Siemens, and Thinking Systems were rated in this report that reflects the opinions of more than 500 healthcare provider participants.
