Perception in an Expanding Frontier
“Eligible Provider/Eligible Hospital Measure: Performed at least one test of certified EHR technology’s capacity to electronically exchange key clinical information.” – CMS proposed rule for the EHR incentive program and definition of meaningful use as published on January 13, 2010.
While this initial eligibility measure may not seem difficult, it has put enormous pressure on hospitals and clinics to participate in HIEs in order to meet current and future meaningful use requirements. Compounding the burden, healthcare providers are faced with an unfamiliar and complex frontier where competitors must became partners while HIE solutions are yet in their infancy.
