The KLAS EMR Improvement Collaborative was created to help healthcare organizations learn from one another. KLAS measures the usability of EMRs and providers' skills and satisfaction with the EMRs in order to learn the keys to maximizing EMR efficiency.

Here is how it works:

  • KLAS, with guidance from healthcare organizations, has constructed a common end-user satisfaction questionnaire. We expect that most organizations will tweak this questionnaire to fit their needs, but the same core question set is sent out to users at many organizations.
  • The questionnaire provides feedback on issues such as timing and amount of training, how much each respondent has personalized his or her EMR experience, order-entry processes, overall satisfaction with the EMR, desired changes, and so on.
  • KLAS hosts this questionnaire, in order to benchmark findings across multiple organizations. After an organization sends out the survey, KLAS analyzes the data and returns their findings to the organization in a personalized report.
  • KLAS' research and reports will help to catalyze productive conversations. EMR vendors, along with administrators, physicians, and IT-staff members will be able to come together with benchmarked data to discuss solutions.
