Excitement around AI—specifically ambient speech, one of healthcare’s most rapidly adopted AI use cases—has surged in recent years as organizations look for ways to improve operations and reduce clinician burden. In response, vendors have rapidly entered the market to meet this demand. Initially, Epic approached ambient speech by providing integrations developed in collaboration with vendors such as Microsoft and Abridge. At their annual UGM in August 2025, Epic shifted their approach with the announcement of their own native clinician-facing ambient speech tool, developed with Microsoft. This move has the potential to reshape an already crowded and quickly evolving market, prompting leaders to reassess their road maps and vendor strategies. To understand how organizations are responding, KLAS interviewed 35 Epic customers who attended UGM, exploring initial reactions to the announcement and the factors driving or hindering adoption plans.
