Health Information Exchanges 2010
The Reality of HIE Adoption
Interest in health information exchange (HIE) solutions is high, yet functioning models are scarce. Between July and October of 2009, KLAS validated 89 live HIE organizations (spread among 22 vendors) that use commercial HIE technologies and share patient data among non-owned facilities. Interestingly, the sample was evenly distributed with 44 acute to acute HIEs and 45 acute to ambulatory HIEs. Acute to acute HIEs were the primary focus of this study.
