With the pandemic mostly past, healthcare organizations across the world are readdressing key technology priorities. EMR initiatives continue to be prioritized at most organizations. In 2022, KLAS validated 164 EMR purchase decisions impacting 532 hospitals and over 82,000 beds. 30 different vendors in 31 different countries were selected. While 2022 had the lowest validated EMR purchase activity of the last five years, certain markets remained highly active—specifically, Europe and Latin America and, to a lesser extent, Asia and the Middle East. Canada and Oceania, while relatively quiet in 2022, are poised for significant activity in 2023 due to major contracts on the horizon.

European EMR 2022

In the past few years, there has been significant merger and acquisition (M&A) activity among EMR vendors who market in Europe as well as significant purchasing activity by healthcare organizations, creating one of the world’s most dynamic EMR markets. From 2016–2020, KLAS validated over 300 EMR decisions impacting over 1,200 inpatient facilities (comprehensive data for 2021 purchases not yet available). Using this data and customer feedback from 100 organizations, this report examines the customer satisfaction, market share, and recent market energy of European EMR vendors and evaluates which are best meeting customer needs in this competitive market.

Middle East & Africa EMR 2021

Many healthcare organizations in the Middle East and some in Africa have made EMR purchase decisions over the last five years (2016–2020). In that time, KLAS has validated 86 EMR decisions—72 in the Middle East and 14 in Africa—impacting over 320 hospitals, with decisions made in 2018–2020 impacting (on average) at least twice as many facilities as decisions made in 2016–2017. This report will examine the customer satisfaction, market share, and recent wins and market energy of EMR vendors in the Middle East and Africa. Compared to KLAS’ previous report on EMRs in the Middle East (published in 2019), this study includes performance data on a significantly higher number of vendors, providing more expansive insights, particularly into the Middle East market.

Canada EMR 2020

From 2015–2019, 22 EMR purchase decisions were finalized in Canada, representing 50+ organizations. Many of these decisions—which impacted 175+ inpatient facilities—were group or even provincial decisions made by organizations looking to achieve economies of scale and lower costs by pooling their collective resources. This report—focused mainly on English-speaking regions—is KLAS’ first report solely on Canada’s EMR market. It highlights which vendors are gaining market share and which are best meeting customer needs. Market share data includes contracts signed through December 31, 2019; decisions made in 2020 are excluded. Customer satisfaction insights come from interviews with 37 individuals using go-forward platforms at 28 healthcare organizations.

Latin America EMR 2020

EMR purchasing in Latin America is on the rise, especially among private healthcare groups. The Brazilian EMR market has been active for over a decade, while escalation in other countries in the region is more recent. This report—KLAS’ first focused solely on the Latin American EMR market—seeks to uncover which vendors are gaining market share and which are best meeting customers’ needs. Altogether, market trend data and customer satisfaction feedback was collected from 102 respondents, representing 88 separate organizations in 12 countries and territories. Insights will be examined first for Latin America as a whole, then for Brazil, and then for other countries throughout the region, collectively referred to as Spanish-speaking Latin America (this grouping also includes a small amount of feedback from several Caribbean nations).

This data is based on interviews with a sample of the firms' recent clients. As a result, it is not necessarily comprehensive of all work a firm may do in this segment.
