Global interest in population health is growing, becoming top of mind for more than just forward-thinking hospital organizations. However, what population health means and how it is addressed varies, from Asia and Oceania, Europe, and Northern America, where population health is maturing, to the Middle East, where a vision is just taking shape, to Latin America, where few healthcare groups have a vision. This report takes an early look at emerging population health trends and initiatives outside the US, as well as the underlying technology identified as key to these strategies—HIE and population health management systems. For additional insight, US performance data, where available, has been included on vendors of international interest.

In addition to financial challenges, population health has its share of other roadblocks. Some forward-thinking organizations have overcome barriers, but governments will have to play a key role in removing obstacles before population health efforts will really take off. Governments in the UK, Singapore, and Saudi Arabia are actively working on strategies to overcome common barriers to population health.
