MDLIVE offers convenient, affordable, and contagion-free virtual healthcare services to more than 40 million members nationwide. Our network of board-certified physicians, dermatologists, psychiatrists and licensed therapists are specially trained in virtual care and are committed to the highest quality treatment and the best possible patient experience.

MDLIVE experienced accelerated growth starting in late Q1 2020 following the CDC recommending telehealth as a first line of defense in slowing the spread of COVID-19. Daily medical visit numbers increased by more than 50 percent in March from the previous two months. Additionally, we saw a comparable month-over-month increase in behavioral health visits in March and April.

As visit volume surged, MDLIVE took steps very quickly that helped us reduce wait times to under 15 minutes and improve the overall patient experience by early April, even as the increased demand continued. Those steps included:

  • Increasing our weekly number of active providers by more than 70 percent in April over earlier in the year, including working with our more than 40 health system partners to credential and train more of their providers to practice on the MDLIVE platform.
  • Expediting changes to allow providers to see patients in states that removed state-level license requirements
  • Building a COVID-19 clinical content and triage workflow in our patient portal and mobile apps to facilitate the evaluation of members coming to the platform with COVID-19 concerns
  • Building a COVID-19 symptom checker in our patient portal facilitated by MDLIVE’s popular chatbot, Sophie, that captured the responses in the triage notes for physicians to see
