Surgical Information Systems (SIS) offers a true cloud-based ASC management, clinical documentation including anesthesia, and patient and physician communications solution – SIS Complete – that is built to support ambulatory surgery centers in good times and in times of uncertainty like the COVID-19 pandemic.

Because it can be accessed anywhere, anytime, on any device, SIS Complete supports the need for ASCs to transition to a remote workforce when volumes drastically decrease or if a center temporarily closes. This has been particularly helpful to keep billing and revenue cycle functions going. Physicians can also access their patient records, review attachments, and sign documents remotely without having to go to the center.

ASCs can easily configure SIS Complete to adjust their workflow and documentation as circumstances change because of COVID-19. For example, a new cancellation reason can be easily added to the ASC management portion of SIS Complete to track cancelled cases due to COVID-19. And new questions can be added to the preop questionnaire in the EMR and patient portal to help screen for symptoms and potential exposure to COVID-19.

The patient and physician communications platform that is part of SIS Complete enables centers to send push notifications via text and email individually or to groups to quickly and efficiently update patients, physicians, and vendors on ASC policies, procedures, and schedules. When cases are rescheduled, the scheduling grid makes it easy to reinstate cancelled cases and edit existing cases. Insurance is automatically re-verified when cases are reinstated, and anything that triggers to occur based on the procedure date automatically updates to the new date.

To help ASC clients gain insight into how COVID-19 has impacted their business and plan for the future wellbeing of their operations, SIS added new metrics to its analytics tool so clients can view year-over-year volume gaps, daily case volume scheduled versus cancelled, and cancellation rates specific to COVID-19.
