The KIS (EHR) market in the DACH region is seeing significant energy; healthcare organizations in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland are making major system decisions driven by regulatory investments (e.g., Germany’s Hospital Future Act [KHZG]) and a growing pressure to modernize, resulting in hospital mergers and acquisitions. Additionally, Oracle Health’s i.s.h.med—commonly used by large organizations—is being sunsetted, opening the door for existing vendors and potential market entrants. Organizations’ purchase decisions are happening not only amid these market dynamics but also against the backdrop of historically low IT investment (specifically in Germany) and low customer satisfaction; EHR satisfaction in DACH is lower than in other global regions. This report—KLAS’ first to focus on the DACH KIS market—examines vendors’ market positions and uses satisfaction feedback from 46 organizations to better understand customers’ overall experience and long-term plans in this evolving space.

Ongoing KLAS research shows that EHR projects—including purchase decisions, implementations, extensions, and optimization work—continue to be a high priority for healthcare organizations across the world, second only to AI initiatives. In 2024, the number of new EHR contracts reached a five-year high. However, the number of hospitals impacted by these contracts dropped to a five-year low, as many of the decisions were made by standalone hospitals or small hospital groups. Additionally, fewer large-scale regional decisions were made in 2024 compared to years prior; KLAS validated regional decisions in Austria, Canada, France, Mauritius, Saudi Arabia, and the UK. Overall, KLAS validated 246 EHR decisions impacting 550 hospitals and over 122,000 beds. 39 different EHR vendors in 43 different countries and territories were selected.

Buying energy and digital maturity are growing among healthcare organizations in Asia and Oceania, with many either adopting their first EHR or enhancing interoperability to keep pace with local initiatives. As EHR maturity deepens, organizations increasingly expect more from their vendors in terms of value and up-to-date technology. A follow-up to 2022 data , this report examines market energy in Asia and Oceania as well as customer satisfaction with key vendors. Notably, insights on Asia are broken out for the first time into two subregions: East Asia and South/Southeast Asia. Across the globe, ongoing budget and staffing restraints within healthcare organizations often lead to staff burnout. Many are shifting their strategic focus to addressing these issues with technology—specifically AI as it has rapidly evolved in recent years. This is the third annual report on trends in how healthcare organizations around the globe (excluding the US) are using technology to address their needs. To report on the most current trends impacting healthcare IT (HIT) in 2025, KLAS interviewed 174 healthcare organizations in 39 countries and territories about their IT investment priorities, including what they consider most exciting for healthcare, their plans for leveraging the cloud, and their plans for engaging with consulting firms.
