Using natural language understanding (NLU) to support smarter workflows with computer-assisted physician documentation (CAPD), 3M proactively delivers clinical and CDI insights in real time within the EHR workflow to close gaps in patient care and clinical documentation. This reduces rework, administrative tasks, and physician burnout while improving physician satisfaction with the EHR.
To deliver this experience, the 3M M*Modal technology is compatible with over 250 EHRs, including all the leading EHRs—and that number is continuously growing. Our robust integrations with EHRs deliver many benefits to the user. A single sign-on, for example, offers ease of use and a single user speech profile to seamlessly switch between devices, applications, and workflows. A single, conversational AI platform allows physicians to choose the workflow that best suits their needs, whether it is front end speech recognition, dictation/transcription, scribing, or mobile documentation. Physicians can quickly, accurately, and securely capture the clinical note in the EHR from any location.
What’s next? 3M is taking this innovation to our virtual assistant technology, integrating with the EHR to further automate everyday tasks, navigate the EHR using speech, and retrieve patient data from the EHR. Our solutions are supported by an in-house team of clinical documentation experts whose goal is to help organizations promote the highest level of utilization and efficiency gains within their EHR.
Why We Participate in the Arch Collaborative
KLAS in general, and the Arch Collaborative in particular, is a partnership from which 3M has benefitted significantly over the years. Given our commitment to our clients and being completely focused on delivering sustained value to them, the Arch Collaborative helps keep our ear to the ground. From this initiative we learn what physicians expect from their speech recognition and technology partners, where we are doing well, and where we could improve further. KLAS’ data-driven approach helps 3M see the numbers behind the insights as we look at the efficiencies gained/needed in EHR documentation in different care settings. Through the years, the Arch Collaborative has helped validate 3M’s firm belief that impactful physician training and support are key components to any successful implementation. The Arch Collaborative gives 3M a quick pulse check on what physicians and client organizations value more in any given year, including their pain points and priorities. Given the long-term stress COVID-19 has put on our healthcare system, the Arch Collaborative will be even more helpful.
