HIE Perception 2011
Public or Private?

December 12, 2011

Current Time Inside Cache Tag Helper: 7/24/2021 3:21:54 PM and Model.reportId = 695

In the 2010 health information exchange (HIE) study, the loudest concern among providers looking at HIE options was how technologically savvy the vendor was. HIEs were largely seen as nebulous with little proven experience. Although the waters are still a little muddy a year later, vendors now offer more proven technology and experience, which seems to have shifted providers’ primary concerns away from technology and toward cost and long-term viability. In this study, the story splits into public versus private HIE models. Diverse provider needs lend to different HIE types, and while there is some overlap, most vendors play either to the private or public area. Of the famous five Ws, the biggest question is, who? Who can get the job done the fastest and cheapest, while leaving providers the most control?
