Healthcare Delivery Organizations

Optimization Journey: Personalization Tools

phase 1
  1. Review self-examination questions
  2. Consider the appropriate timing to introduce EHR personalization tools (e.g., 30–90 days after hire)
  3. Identify who will create the personalization courses
  4. Identify the training delivery method (e.g., asynchronous virtual learning, classroom training, one-on-one instruction, etc.)
  5. Evaluate available technology and services that can be used to create and maintain the training (e.g., third-party software vendor, consulting firm, etc.)
phase 2
  1. In accordance with your EHR policies and governance structure, have providers deploy EHR personalization tools that they have used previously (either at your organization or a previous employer)
  2. Review EHR data (e.g., Signal, NEAT, Lights-On Network, etc.) to identify individual clinician needs/deficiencies related to personalization tools
    1. Identify which specific tools will make the most difference for each specialty/focus area
  3. Build personalization courses in order of highest impact to lowest impact (as measured by your recent Arch Collaborative survey)
phase 3
  1. Via a survey, measure the effectiveness of and clinicians’ perceived gains from the adoption of EHR personalization tools
  2. Also measure clinician efficiency gains via EHR data (e.g., Signal, NEAT, Lights-On Network, etc.)
  3. Highlight identified gains to clinicians to encourage their participation and adoption of personalization tools
phase 4
  1. With EHR metrics and survey results in hand, round with individual clinicians to determine which EHR personalization tools are or are not creating gains for them
  2. Use this information to modify and improve your EHR personalization tool education
