From Documentation to Narration: Transforming Nursing Practice with Ambient Listening

Corewell Health implemented ambient listening to address nursing documentation burden, using the technology as a catalyst for practice transformation rather than a tool. The session covered leadership alignment, frontline engagement, change management, workflow integration, and strategies to sustain adoption. Corewell partnered with KLAS on pre- and post-surveys measuring documentation efficiency, workflow integration, and clinician experience, complemented by Epic data on documentation time, latency, and usage. This combined approach demonstrated improved workflow efficiency, reduced cognitive burden, better patient interaction, and greater likelihood of completing work within scheduled shifts, while KLAS benchmarking supported comparison and scaling decisions. Attendees learned how ambient documentation enables real-time narrative workflows, how to drive adoption, and how structured measurement quantifies effects on nursing efficiency, experience, and patient interaction.
